Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Honored by Georgian Parliament in Istanbul

Istanbul: Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, met with her Georgian counterpart, Shalva Papuashvili, on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul. The meeting marked a significant moment as Papuashvili presented Gafarova with the Georgian Parliament's "Honor" medal.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the medal was awarded to Gafarova in recognition of her substantial contributions to enhancing inter-parliamentary relations and fostering stronger ties between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples. Papuashvili highlighted that Gafarova is the first parliament speaker to receive such an honor, underscoring the significance of her efforts in building diplomatic bridges.

During their dialogue, both leaders praised the robust inter-parliamentary cooperation between their countries, highlighting successful collaborations on both bilateral and international fronts. They noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation remains a cornerstone of both bilateral and multilateral relations, with effective mechanisms established to facilitate these interactions.

The meeting further underscored the fruitful cooperation enjoyed by parliamentary committees and friendship groups from both nations. The discussions also delved into the mutual support and coordinated activities of Azerbaijani and Georgian parliamentarians on international platforms, reinforcing the strong ties shared by the two countries.
