Speaker of Slovak Parliament Advocates Strengthening Azerbaijan-EU Relations

Baku: In an exclusive interview conducted by APA News Agency and APA TV, Richard Ra the Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, emphasized that Azerbaijan deserves fair relations with the European Union. He highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan's democratic status and its potential as a business partner.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Rai praised the current high level of relations between Slovakia and Azerbaijan, attributing it to the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed by Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Ilham Aliyev. He underscored the mutually beneficial nature of the relationship, emphasizing that both countries require each other's support, particularly in the context of global crises.

Rai expressed enthusiasm for expanding parliamentary diplomacy through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Slovak National Council and Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, focusing on cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence and youth exchange programs. He also highlighted the critical role of legislative frameworks in successful governance.

The Speaker acknowledged Azerbaijan's key role in Europe's energy security, especially through the 'Solidarity Ring' initiative. He noted the strategic importance of Azerbaijani gas to Slovakia, considering the transition away from Russian energy sources due to sanctions. Rai also saw potential for Slovak investment in Azerbaijan's renewable energy projects, particularly in Karabakh.

Discussing economic collaboration, Rai identified the defense industry as a promising sector for joint ventures, with upcoming defense exhibitions in both countries serving as platforms for cooperation. He also stressed the importance of using new technologies, like artificial intelligence, to aid legislative processes.

Finally, Rai highlighted the symbolic significance of Slovakia's involvement in Azerbaijan's reconstruction projects, particularly the 'smart village' initiative in Karabakh, and reiterated Slovakia's commitment to fostering closer Azerbaijan-EU ties, advocating against unjust resolutions in the European Parliament.
