Special Operation by State Security Service: Person Wanted Internationally for 17 Years Brought to Azerbaijan

Baku: As part of ongoing anti-terrorism and operational-search measures carried out by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Namig Rashid oglu Aghalarov, who had been on the international wanted list since 2009, has been detained, brought to Azerbaijan, and is now under investigation. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Namig Aghalarov is accused of participating in armed activities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other countries in 2008-2009 as part of illegal armed groups.

These accusations include organizing armed ambushes against personnel of the UN-mandated International Security Assistance Force, using remotely detonated explosive devices, and orchestrating armed attacks against representatives of international organizations and citizens of various countries engaged in international missions, as well as against logistics networks.

Over the years, Namig Aghalarov reportedly hid in various countries under different names to evade responsibility. He is also said to have engaged in jihadist activities and radical religious propaganda, further complicating efforts to apprehend him.
