Khankendi: The Karabakh region, known for its rich historical and cultural monuments, witnessed the complete destruction of all mosques, shrines, cemeteries, museums, and monuments related to Islamic culture in the city of Khankendi during the occupation period, with no trace left of them today. This destruction is perceived as aggression not only against the Azerbaijani people but against the entire human culture, stated the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi, and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, Elchin Yusubov, during an event at Karabakh University in Khankendi as part of the “Week of Spiritual Values.”

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, E. Yusubov also highlighted that during the occupation, Armenians not only falsified Islamic monuments but also Christian temples belonging to Caucasian Albania, attempting to present them as Armenian monuments.

One of such monuments mentioned was the Ganjasar temple located in the village of Vangli in the Agdere district. This Albanian monastery, dating back to the 13th century, served as the religious center of the Caucasian Albania Catholicosate until the 19th century. During the occupation, the Armenians altered the architectural structure, interior, and inscriptions of the monument, erasing the Albanian inscriptions in an effort to rewrite history. Presently, in the territories liberated from occupation, efforts are underway to restore mosques, cultural centers, and churches.
