Moscow: The regional state of emergency in Dagestan will soon be elevated to the federal level, Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov announced during a meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin. The meeting focused on addressing the aftermath of the natural disaster that has struck Dagestan, as reported by APA's Moscow bureau.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the devastating floods have resulted in the deaths of six individuals and the rescue of more than 200 people. Sergey Melikov, the head of the Dagestan republic, reported that the floods have inflicted damage on 842 socially significant facilities. Additionally, he highlighted that up to 1.5 million residents are currently in the emergency zone due to severe flooding caused by relentless heavy rains.

Melikov further explained that the floods and subsequent landslides have severely disrupted transport connections, affecting 97 settlements across the region. The escalation of the state of emergency to the federal level underscores the severity of the situation and the need for comprehensive assistance to mitigate the impact of this natural disaster.
