‘Taghiyev: Oil’ Premieres in Hollywood as Azerbaijan’s Oscar Submission Gains International Attention

Hollywood: The presentation of the feature film ‘Taghiyev: Oil’ took place in the USA, the PR and Media Relations Department of the Baku Media Center told APA.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the feature film ‘Taghiyev: Oil,’ produced by the Baku Media Center, was showcased in Los Angeles, the center of the US film industry – Hollywood. The screening was held at ‘Ross House,’ a popular venue for film professionals, and attracted over 100 guests. Following the screening, a Q and A session with the film’s director, Zaur Gasimli, was conducted.

The event marks a significant move in promoting ‘Taghiyev’ internationally, aiming to elevate Azerbaijani cinema on a global platform. The film has been officially submitted as Azerbaijan’s entry for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category at the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (‘Oscar’) Awards. The shortlist for this category will be announced on December 16, 2025, with the main nominations following on January 15, 2026. The prestigious award ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Produced by the Baku Media Center with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and ARKA, ‘Taghiyev: Oil’ is the culmination of a dedicated creative team. Key figures include head producer Arzu Aliyeva, producer Orman Aliyev, director Zaur Gasimli, screenwriters Ismayil Iman, Asif Isgandarli, and Zaur Gasimli, cinematographer Vladimir Artemyev, production designer Sabuhi Atababayev, costume designer Vusal Rahim, and composer Etibar Asadli.

The film features an accomplished cast portraying historical figures, including People’s Artist Parviz Mammadrzayev as Taghiyev, alongside Gurban Ismayilov and Honored Artists Rasim Jafar, Elshen Rustamov, and Natavan Hajiyeva.
