Baku: ‘Taghiyev: Oil’ film has been announced as Azerbaijan’s official nominee in the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ ‘Oscar’ award, the film’s director, Zaur Gasimli told APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the film was selected as the best feature film of the year by the Azerbaijan Film Academy and submitted as a nominee for the ‘Oscar’ award. Zaur Gasimli shared that they are currently among 90 films, with 16 to be shortlisted in December and eventually narrowed down to 5 in January. The creative teams of these 5 films will be invited to Los Angeles, where they will be considered laureates.

The film was produced by Baku Media Center with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and ARKA. ‘Taghiyev: Oil’ is a collaborative effort of a strong creative team. The film’s chief producer is Arzu Aliyeva, with Orman Aliyev as producer. The director is Zaur Gasimli, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ismayil Iman and Asif Isgandarli.
