The statement of the UN Security Council on the situation around the Lachin corridor was not accepted because of the position of France. This was announced on December 31 by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN.

“At the request of Yerevan, this process was coordinated by the French, who ignored the overwhelming majority of our proposals, while taking into account the corrections of other members of the Security Council. The uncleanliness of such methods in Paris is obvious,” Polyansky stressed.

“Four joint statements at the highest level, supported by both Baku and Yerevan, remain the basis for normalization. During the work on the statement, the former Western partners did not find the courage to mention these documents and the efforts of Russian peacekeepers,” the Deputy Permanent Representative noted.

The diplomat said that the “Westerners” were trying to adopt a statement from the Security Council, and not to develop measures to resolve the conflict.

Note that the discussion of the text of the statement lasted 10 days. The document called the situation in Karabakh a “humanitarian catastrophe” and condemned Baku’s actions.

Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Albania and Russia made their proposals to the text. However, France did not accept them. Due to the lack of consensus, France was forced to withdraw this document, which was presented by Paris at a meeting of the Security Council on December 20
