Khankendi: The preparatory court session has begun in the criminal case of Armenian origin Karen Albertovich Avanesyan, accused of committing terrorism and other particularly serious crimes in Khankendi, APA reports. The case is being heard under the chairmanship of Judge Ilkin Ibishov of the Ganja Court on Grave Crimes.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on September 14 of this year, Karen Albertovich Avanesyan left his residence and went to a forested area near the city. Here, he retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle he had previously hidden, along with four magazines filled with ammunition and five grenades. He intended to approach the venue of an event taking place in the city of Khankendi. When police officers attempted to stop him, Avanesyan offered armed resistance by throwing three hand grenades and opening fire with the assault rifle. As a result of return fire, Avanesyan was wounded and subsequently apprehended.

Based on the evidence collected in the criminal case, Karen Avanesyan has been charged under Articles 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.11 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which pertain to the attempted intentional killing of two or more persons in connection with terrorism in a generally dangerous manner, in connection with the performance of official duties, and attempted murder. Additional charges include Article 214.2.3 concerning terrorism committed with the use of firearms or objects used as weapons, Article 228.1 for the illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of firearms, their component parts, and ammunition, and Article 315 for resistance and use of force against a representative of authority.
