Ankara: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Trkiye's commitment to enhance strategic cooperation with Algeria across key sectors such as regional security, energy, mining, transportation, and agriculture. This statement came amid concerns over Israel's actions and its impact on global energy markets.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Erdogan, speaking alongside Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a joint news conference in Ankara, emphasized the strengthening of long-term cooperation in energy supply security, advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations. Erdogan recalled their last meeting in Algeria on November 21, 2023, where they launched the Trkiye-Algeria Strategic Cooperation Council to bolster bilateral coordination mechanisms.
Erdogan highlighted that the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council resulted in decisions aimed at enhancing the brotherhood between the two countries. He noted that the relations between Ankara and Algiers are based on mutual respect and a shared history, influencing their stance on major international issues. Erdogan described Algeria as one of Trkiye's largest trade partners in Africa, with cooperation expanding in strategic sectors like energy, mining, transportation, and agriculture.
The Turkish president reiterated Trkiye's efforts to achieve the bilateral trade target of $10 billion. Currently, over 1,600 Turkish companies operate in Algeria, with investments surpassing $8 billion in various sectors including industry, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. Erdogan also mentioned an Ankara business forum held earlier, where private sector representatives from both countries explored new investment and partnership opportunities.
Erdogan addressed regional developments, warning about the negative impact of the conflict initiated by Israel on energy markets. He emphasized Trkiye's long-term investments in building stable partnerships and the ongoing reinforcement of cooperation in energy supply security, particularly in natural gas. Erdogan called for increased collaboration in renewable energy and emerging technologies, encouraging both countries to explore new partnership opportunities in these fields.
