Shusha: Turkish experts have investigated tourism opportunities in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan Fuad Nagiyev stated at the “Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Development Opportunities” conference in Shusha.
According to Trend News Agency, the State Tourism Agency has evaluated the resources for health tourism and produced a report titled “Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Current Status and Development Prospects.” Fuad Nagiyev highlighted that a working group, comprising representatives from various government, private, and public organizations, has been established to advance the sector’s development.
Nagiyev emphasized the primary goals of further developing Naftalan oil as a tourism product and promoting it in European and new markets. He noted the substantial health tourism potential in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, where Turkish specialists were involved in a study of tourism resources, resulting in recommendations for development. The balneological opportu
nities in Kalbajar are particularly noteworthy, with a conceptual document proposing five tourist and recreational zones, two of which focus on health tourism and the others on mineral and thermal springs.
Lachin’s rich mineral-thermal water resources present a significant potential for health tourism, while the recreational possibilities in the city of Shusha could further contribute to this sector’s growth. The conference, hosted by Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency in Shusha, gathered representatives from the State Tourism Agency, special representative offices of the President of Azerbaijan, and ministries such as Ecology and Natural Resources and Health, along with approximately 200 healthcare and medical tourism experts from Azerbaijan and abroad.
The event includes panel sessions covering topics like “Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Current Status and Opportunities,” “Global and Successful Experience in Health Tourism: Proposals for Azerbaijan,” and “Medical Tourism in Azerbaijan: A Look into the Futur
e and Strategy.”
