Turkish Journalist Highlights Azerbaijan’s Strategic Alliances and Historical Bonds

Ankara:Yilmaz Özdil, a Turkish journalist and writer, discussed the complex geopolitical relationships involving Azerbaijan, Israel, and Palestine on his YouTube channel, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Özdil noted Azerbaijan's longstanding alliances, highlighting how Israel was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991. He contrasted this with Palestine's historical support for Armenia. He emphasized that Azerbaijan has consistently remembered past actions against it, particularly in regard to support from Palestine for groups like PKK and ASALA.

Özdil further elaborated on Azerbaijan's military procurement strategy, noting the significant role of Israeli-made weapons in liberating Karabakh. He mentioned that Azerbaijan sourced 70-80 percent of its military hardware from Israel, including air defense systems, due to their strategic cooperation since 2012.

Discussing the regional dynamics, Özdil commented on the production of UAVs, stating that Azerbaijan has been jointly producing these with Israel since 2009, thus negating a need for Turkish UAVs. He highlighted the distinction between mourning the losses in Gaza and opposing Azerbaijan, which he described as a brotherly nation to Turkey.

Özdil also touched on cultural and historical ties, referencing how Azerbaijan adjusted its Victory Day to honor Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and recalled Azerbaijan's support for Turkey during its War of Independence. He underscored the strong bond between the two nations, suggesting that no other interests should jeopardize this relationship.
