ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan has reported a significant reduction in methane emissions, achieving a ten percent decrease compared to 2020 levels, according to Maksat Babayev, the chairperson of the State Concern ‘Turkmengaz’. This announcement was made during the plenary session titled ‘The latest trends in the global energy markets and prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation’ at the international conference and exhibition ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2024’.

According to Trend News Agency, the reduction is a result of a phased strategy aimed at lowering methane emissions, which underscores Turkmenistan’s dedication to meeting environmental standards and fostering sustainable development. The strategy includes measures targeting methane emissions in the energy and agricultural sectors. Furthermore, the country is actively pursuing international collaborations to exchange expertise and adopt advanced technologies for more effective emissions management.

These initiatives align with global efforts to combat
climate change, demonstrating Turkmenistan’s commitment to enhancing the environmental condition both regionally and globally. The ongoing ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2024’ forum serves as an international platform for dialogue among national and international oil and gas companies, industry experts, and financial institutions.
