Baku: The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) has expressed serious concern over the adoption by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs of an amendment containing a series of allegations against Azerbaijan. TURKPA Secretary General Ramil Hasan issued a statement on the matter.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, "On July 22, 2026, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives adopted an amendment containing a series of allegations against the Republic of Azerbaijan. I note with concern that this initiative comes at a time when Azerbaijan and Armenia are actively engaged in a process of normalization and peacebuilding in the South Caucasus," the statement said.

The statement stressed that legislative decisions should be based on an objective assessment of facts and the principles of international law, rather than the interests of individual lobbying groups. It also called on legislative bodies to refrain from taking steps that could undermine the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, as well as good-neighborly relations.
