Ukrainian Foreign Minister Condemns Russian Drone Strike on SOCAR Oil Depot

Odesa: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha½ has commented on Russia’s drone strikes against the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) oil depot in Odesa.

According to Trend News Agency, Sybiha½ highlighted that Russian forces targeted SOCAR’s oil terminals in the Odesa region last night, marking the second such strike on Azerbaijan’s state company in recent weeks. He emphasized that Moscow’s actions are deliberately working against Azerbaijan’s interests.

On the night of August 18, 2025, the SOCAR oil depot in the Odesa region experienced a significant strike by Russian Shahed-type drones. The attack resulted in multiple direct hits and a subsequent fire, causing damage to storage tanks, the pumping station building, operator and technical facilities, as well as the depot’s fencing. The depot has a total storage capacity exceeding 16,000 cubic meters. An assessment is currently underway to evaluate the extent of the damage, and urgent repair efforts are ongoing.

This incident follows a previous attack on August 8, when around ten drones targeted the same oil depot, leading to partial destruction. A criminal case has been initiated in connection with these incidents. Sybiha½’s statement underscores the importance of reinforcing cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan and the need for appropriate diplomatic and legal responses to such attacks.
