Baku: Ukraine is expanding energy cooperation with Azerbaijan and Trkiye, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated during the ministerial-level plenary session held within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports. According to him, Ukraine is working on creating new electricity and gas interconnections in order to strengthen integration into the European energy system.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, D. Shmyhal noted that cooperation with Azerbaijan and Trkiye is of particular importance in this context. The Ukrainian minister emphasized the ongoing productive cooperation and negotiations with Azerbaijan and Trkiye, highlighting Ukraine's role as a gateway to Europe for all types of energy. He pointed out Ukraine's large gas storage facilities and robust electricity grid as key assets in this initiative.

The minister further explained that Ukraine is implementing a policy of decentralizing electricity generation to enhance the resilience of its energy system. In the future, Ukraine plans to increase the share of gas-fired generation in its total energy production to at least 25%. Additionally, he noted that oil and gas hold strategic importance for both Ukraine and Europe, indicating potential for expanded cooperation with Caspian region countries in this sector.
