Baku: “The level of use of open-source technologies in Azerbaijan is one of the topics of interest to us,” Bernardo Mariano, Assistant-Secretary-General of the UN, said during the “New Technologies for a New World” panel at the XII Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mariano emphasized the necessity for the organization he represents to leverage its influence in accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across countries. He pointed out that research in AI has spanned approximately 60 years, culminating in technologies such as ‘ChatGPT.’ Mariano expressed his belief in AI’s potential to solve substantial global issues. He noted that AI serves the community by aiding in climate change mitigation and restoring lost human intelligence. However, he also acknowledged the drawbacks, mentioning that AI could pose challenges for humanity.
Mariano further discussed the role of global governance in AI adoption, expressing hope that the UN could utilize its leadership to guide this process. He remarked that while ‘Open Source Technology’ alone may not resolve all existing issues, the UN’s persuasive capacity might influence countries to implement AI effectively.
