Moscow: “It was a special honor for me to pray at the Shusha Mosque,” Ravil Gaynutdin, Head of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the country, said during a meeting with Rahman Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Russia’s Grand Mufti stated that he personally witnessed the mosques and Muslim religious sites in Karabakh that had been desecrated by the occupiers. He emphasized Russia’s support for Azerbaijan’s efforts to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing joy over Azerbaijan’s victory and highlighting the appreciation from the President and people of Azerbaijan.

Ravil Gaynutdin expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, whom he regards as an elder brother. He conveyed his honor in praying at the restored Shusha Mosque and acknowledged the historical significance of the site, where President Ilham Aliyev had also delivered a speech.

The head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia noted the Islamic world’s support for restoring Karabakh’s Islamic heritage and pledged Russia’s participation in these efforts. He highlighted the opportunity to unite Muslims in this cause and direct resources toward restoring shrines in Karabakh.

Gaynutdin remarked on the importance of friendship during challenging times, emphasizing the need for support in rebuilding homes and mosques. He asserted that the Islamic world and Azerbaijan’s friends would extend their assistance.

The Grand Mufti mentioned the Muslim International Forum, which regularly convenes in various capitals, expressing hope for it to be held in Baku in 2025. He also affirmed support for the Baku International Conference on Combating Islamophobia, scheduled for May, and expressed readiness to co-found the event.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, acknowledged the Russian Spiritual Administration of Muslims’ role in strengthening Azerbaijan-Russia relations. He emphasized the significance of dialogue between Muslim communities and other religious groups in both countries and the importance of joint educational projects promoting interfaith and interethnic understanding.

During the meeting, Mustafayev expressed gratitude to Mufti Gaynutdin and the Russian Spiritual Administration of Muslims for their support regarding the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
