ASHGABAT: The United Nations has officially recognized Turkmenistan’s successful efforts in eradicating statelessness, highlighting the country’s significant progress in fulfilling its international human rights commitments.

According to Trend News Agency, during the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the Program of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UN High Commissioner Filippo Grandi lauded Turkmenistan for its initiatives that led to the achievement of this milestone. Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Vepa Hajiyev, expressed the importance of the initiatives proposed by the President of Turkmenistan, culminating in the successful completion of the campaign to eradicate statelessness within the nation.

The event marked a significant advancement in the realization of human rights and the strengthening of Turkmenistan’s international commitments. Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, Amanmuhammet Sazakov, noted in his speech that the campaign
resulted in more than 32,000 people obtaining Turkmen citizenship, while over 5,000 others received residence permits.
