UN-Habitat Director Emphasizes Continued Cooperation with Azerbaijan for Sustainable Urban Development

Baku: UN-Habitat looks forward to continuing cooperation with Azerbaijan, UNECE, and all partners, focusing on developing more climate-resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities, stated Rafael Tuts, Director of the Global Solutions Division at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), during a session titled 'Strategic Environmental Assessment Tool for Achieving Climate Targets in Urban Planning' held at WUF13.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Tuts highlighted the significance of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) in urban development. He noted that the quality of decisions made before cities are built, expanded, reconstructed, and financed is crucial in the struggle for sustainable urban development. Tuts emphasized that SEA is vital for enabling governments, cities, and partners to integrate environmental, social, and economic factors at the earliest stages of policymaking, planning, and decision-making.
