Baku: The Director of the UN-Habitat Global Solutions Division, Rafael Tuts, has reaffirmed UN-Habitat's commitment to collaborating on urban development, highlighting three key priorities for future efforts. He made these remarks during an event at the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13) in Baku, focusing on using Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as a tool to achieve climate targets in urban planning.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Tuts emphasized the need for SEA to be applied at early stages to influence decisions effectively. He noted that integrating SEA with implementation and financing processes is crucial for ensuring that well-planned urban development translates into high-quality investments. Moreover, Tuts highlighted the importance of inclusivity in SEA processes, urging for the participation of communities, local authorities, and stakeholders in shaping urban futures.

Tuts also expressed UN-Habitat's readiness to continue collaboration with the Government of Azerbaijan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and other partners. The aim is to foster the development of cities that are climate-resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.
