Khankendi: Reinforcing Azerbaijan’s position in international processes on sustainable development and the climate agenda, the country is preparing to host the Third National Urban Forum (NUFA3) under the theme ‘Towards Climate-Resilient and Healthy Cities: Regional Partnerships and Innovative Solutions.’

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the forum will occur on October 15-17, 2025, in Khankendi and Baku. This event is part of the cooperation between the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

The three-day event will provide a platform for local and international experts to discuss challenges and opportunities in urban development. Key topics will include resilient recovery after conflicts and natural disasters, housing provision, sustainable and healthy cities, ecological practices, digitalization, the Sustainable Development Goals, and regional and international partnerships.

The forum is expected to gather around 400 participants from about 60 countries, including government and private sector representatives, international organizations, academic institutions, and civil society.

Participants will explore reconstruction and development projects in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, modern urban planning standards, Azerbaijan’s post-conflict achievements, and leading practices from other countries. Discussions with academic researchers will enhance knowledge exchange and support evidence-based decision-making.

The official opening and the second day will occur at the newly inaugurated Congress Center in Khankendi. Plenary sessions will conclude with study visits to cultural and infrastructure projects in Khankendi and Shusha.

The final day in Baku will feature panel discussions on climate-resilient cities, technology’s role in urban development, climate finance, and partnerships for green city growth.
