UN-Habitat Warns of Water Scarcity in 14 Arab Countries Amid Rising Tensions

Abu dhabi: Fourteen Arab countries are facing water scarcity, as highlighted by the UN-Habitat representative for Arab countries during a session titled 'Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Arab Cities: From Local Action to Urban Transformation' held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the representative noted that tensions have increased in the Arab region due to ongoing conflicts. The region is experiencing land pollution and heightened pressure on urban infrastructure. Water stress is becoming a significant issue, compounded by severe weather conditions and environmental degradation. These factors collectively pose risks to the ecosystem and complicate living conditions, underscoring the need for sustainable nature-based solutions.

The representative emphasized that these solutions are crucial for protecting nature and preventing emerging risks while working towards ecosystem restoration. This approach is integral to the strategic plan for 2026-2029, which includes establishing close cooperation with local communities to implement these solutions effectively.
