Baku:Public institutions around the world are confronting an unprecedented challenge as they strive to address urgent and immediate needs while adapting to a rapidly evolving global landscape. This was the message delivered by Li Junhua, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, during his address at the "UN Governance Innovation Summit Advancing Future-Ready Institutions" in Baku.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Li Junhua emphasized that interconnected crises, including climate shocks, demographic changes, economic volatility, and rapid technological advancements, are pushing the limits of public institutions. These challenges require institutions to be more responsive, effective, and trustworthy, as citizens demand more from their governments in managing both current crises and future risks and opportunities.
Li Junhua also highlighted that despite these challenges, advancing sustainable development remains a critical priority. He stressed that the United Nations' SDG Report 2026 underscores the necessity for accelerated actions from all sectors to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
