Baku: 'We must also prevent the increase of food loss and waste. This will allow us to both save money and contribute to the environment,' Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme Inger Andersen said at an international event dedicated to World Environment Day (WED) hosted by Azerbaijan, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Andersen highlighted the significant financial efforts being made to combat environmental damage, stating that tens of millions of dollars are being spent in this endeavor. She emphasized the importance of transitioning from traditional energy to green energy as a collective responsibility, and stressed the need for preparedness against natural disasters. Andersen urged for zero emissions and zero temperature increase, emphasizing that the climate crisis requires a unified global response.

Andersen also noted the urgency of addressing climate issues, as the planet continues to show signs of distress. Thousands are raising their voices to bring attention to these challenges. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan's active contributions toward environmental sustainability and climate action, recognizing the country's efforts in this crucial global fight.
