Baku: Anacl¡udia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), emphasized the pivotal role of Azerbaijan in global urban development and climate discussions. In a video address during an international event for World Environment Day 2026, Rossbach highlighted the nation's significant contributions, noting its hosting of major events such as COP29 and the World Economic Forum, along with this year's World Environment Day celebrations. Azerbaijan is also set to host an official UNFCCC climate week, positioning it as a key player in addressing pressing environmental challenges.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Rossbach praised the Baku Continuity Coalition established at the World Economic Forum. This coalition has become an essential platform for advancing an integrated approach that aligns urban and climate agendas, reinforcing connections between the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda. She stressed the importance of cities evolving in harmony with natural systems to sustain life, reflecting the theme of World Environment Day: 'Inspired by nature. For climate. For Our Future.'

Rossbach further elaborated on the 'Baku Call to Action,' which emphasizes the importance of housing as a cornerstone of sustainable urban development. The call advocates for inclusive, affordable, and climate-resilient homes, urging a shift towards nature-based solutions, ecosystem restoration, and the creation of greener urban spaces. The goal is to reduce environmental footprints and enhance community resilience.
