Baku: A UN official has thanked Azerbaijan for its efforts to combat climate change, UNFCCC Senior Director for Programme Coordination Daniele Violetti stated during his speech at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Violetti emphasized Azerbaijan's significant contributions to the UN climate process. Under Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency, a new Collective Finance Goal on climate finance was adopted, and the rules on international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement were finalized. These developments are designed to help parties achieve their targets more efficiently and create opportunities to unlock new sources of finance for developing countries.
Violetti further highlighted the importance of accelerating the implementation of these initiatives, identifying factors hindering progress, and finding practical solutions to overcome obstacles. He noted that governments alone cannot tackle these challenges and emphasized the crucial role of businesses, the financial sector, cities, and civil society as partners in this endeavor.
