China’s Lianyungang Port Highlights Strategic Role of Baku Port as Gateway to Europe

Baku: Baku Port, positioned as the only port and gateway to Europe on the western coast of the Caspian Sea, has been identified as having significant development potential, according to Jiang Wei, Vice President for External Relations of China's Lianyungang Port, as reported by APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Jiang Wei emphasized the strong partnership established between Lianyungang Port and Baku Port since mid-2018. The collaboration between the two ports was formalized in 2024 with the signing of a framework agreement focused on Trans-Caspian transportation. This partnership was further enhanced in 2025 with in-depth discussions to strengthen their cooperation.

Jiang Wei also highlighted the importance of collaboration with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Baku Port. During his visit, he met with Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, to discuss relevant issues in detail, underscoring the strategic importance of these partnerships in enhancing connectivity and trade routes between Asia and Europe through the Caspian Sea.
