According to Azeri-Press news agency, nearly 6 million of the 13.1 million school-age refugee children worldwide were out of school in 2025. This represents 44% of the total refugee children population, as revealed by a United Nations report.
UN Secretary-General's spokesperson, St©phane Dujarric, expressed concerns that declining funding could further worsen the situation, potentially preventing millions more children from accessing education and undoing recent progress in refugee education.
Despite these challenges, the report highlighted positive developments in higher education access for refugees. In 2025, 11% of refugees were enrolled in higher education, an increase from 9% in 2024, with over 450,000 refugees attending higher education institutions for the first time.
