BAKU: The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused the United States of misrepresenting human rights issues as a means to interfere in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, including its judicial processes and the independence of its judiciary. This assertion was made by Aykhan Hajizada, the ministry's spokesperson, in a post on his X page. According to Trend News Agency, Hajizada emphasized that fundamental rights and freedoms are fully guaranteed in Azerbaijan. He drew a parallel with the United States, stating that, similar to the U.S., individuals in Azerbaijan who are serving sentences for criminal offenses are subjected to the applicable laws regarding punishment without any form of discrimination. Hajizada further commented on appeals from certain foreign governments and politicians for the release of prisoners convicted under Azerbaijani national laws, suggesting that these appeals undermine the commitment to the rule of law.
