WASHINGTON: The United States has not connected the negotiation of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia with the proceedings of the upcoming COP29 climate conference, a senior official stated. According to Trend News Agency, during a recent briefing, US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller clarified the US position regarding the ongoing peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "We never tied the agreement to COP. We wanted to see a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan months ago, and have been pushing for a peace agreement, and ultimately hope to get one over the line. But that's up to the two parties, not the United States," he explained. In a related development, during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week in New York in late September, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken conducted a trilateral meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. Secretary Blinken praised the progress made by Armenia and Azerbaijan towar d achieving a "durable and dignified peace" and urged both ministers to continue their efforts to finalize an agreement as soon as possible. He emphasized that a peace agreement would contribute to increased stability and prosperity in the region.
