TASHKENT: An Uzbek citizen, Orifzhonov Shukurillo, exercised his right to vote for the first time in the parliamentary elections at polling station No. 19 in Tashkent. Shukurillo, aged 19, highlighted the significance of the elections for the country’s future and stressed the importance of informed voting.

According to Trend News Agency, Shukurillo prepared for the elections by researching the plans and proposed policies of each participating party. He emphasized that the parliamentary elections are crucial for the future of Uzbekistan’s population, underscoring the responsibility to vote conscientiously. “It is an honor for me to vote in the parliamentary elections because the results will affect the lives of the people of Uzbekistan,” he stated.

Polling stations opened across Uzbekistan for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local kengashes (councils) of people’s deputies. Voting began on October 27, with polling stations operating from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5). Preliminary resu
lts are anticipated on October 28.

This election features five parties: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.” This year’s elections follow a mixed electoral system in line with the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation, electing 75 members of the Legislative Chamber through single-mandate constituencies under a majoritarian system, while the other 75 members are chosen via proportional representation with party lists.

Additionally, the election process has been fully digitalized through the “E-Saylov” information system. Over 850 foreign and international observers, including those from the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States, are overseeing the electoral process.
