Tashkent: Uzbekistan and Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the field of electronic commerce. This agreement was formalized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan and the Federal Ministry for Commerce of Pakistan during the 9th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries.

According to Trend News Agency, both nations also signed the Final Protocol of the Commission meeting, signaling their commitment to further collaboration. Discussions during the meeting focused on the current status and potential future advancements in trade, investment, industrial collaboration, transport, and logistics. The emphasis was on implementing agreements reached during high-level visits.

The parties conducted a comprehensive review of the progress of joint investment projects and trade agreements. They identified specific measures to enhance cooperation, such as increasing the effectiveness of the Preferen
tial Trade Agreement, organizing national product exhibitions, and establishing joint trade houses. Additionally, efforts will be made to expand access for entrepreneurs on the electronic trading platforms of both countries.

In terms of investment collaboration, a joint “Program for Industrial Cooperation 2025-2026” will be developed. Large-scale collaborative projects are planned in sectors including agriculture, food processing, IT, chemicals, textiles, and machinery. Both countries have also agreed on initiatives to improve transport connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods.

Over the last five years, mutual trade volume between Uzbekistan and Pakistan has tripled. In 2024, trade volume increased by an additional 10 percent, surpassing $300 million. The number of joint ventures has also tripled, reaching 128, and road freight transport has grown nearly 6.5 times, totaling 354,000 tons in 2023.
