Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s Restored House-Museum Reopens in Shusha


SHUSHA — President Ilham Aliyev attended the reopening of the restored Uzeyir Hajibeyli house-museum in Shusha on September 19, after years of disrepair following the city’s occupation. The house, originally built in the 19th century and operating as a museum since 1959, was the residence of Hajibeyli, a prominent Azerbaijani composer and founder of the nation’s professional music and opera.



According to According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the museum, once home to 1,700 exhibits before it was looted during the occupation, now holds 136 preserved items. Restoration of the building, led by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, began in April 2022. The museum’s first floor displays exhibits related to Hajibeyli’s childhood and education, while the second floor features materials from his career, including fragments of musical notation from his renowned works like “Sensiz” and “Koroghlu.”
