Brussels: The level of underground gas storage filling in European Union countries stands at 58.9%, which is 9.3 percentage points lower than the five-year average, ‘APA-Economics’ reports citing the European Gas Infrastructure Operators Association (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE). It was noted that currently, the total volume of gas in the storage facilities of EU countries is 64.6 billion cubic meters.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the European Commission requires EU countries to ensure their gas storage facilities are filled up to 90% by November 1 each year. This measure is aimed at increasing reserves for the winter period in case of supply disruptions or abnormal cold weather conditions.

Recall that since December 31, 2020, the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe has begun via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
