WHO Issues Recommendations to Azerbaijan Amid Global Mpox Concerns

BAKU — Despite no reported cases of monkeypox, now referred to as Mpox, in Azerbaijan, the WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan has issued recommendations to bolster the nation’s health surveillance and response systems. This advisory aims to ensure Azerbaijan is prepared to detect and manage any potential outbreaks promptly.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, The WHO stressed the importance of vigilance, particularly in light of frequent international travel, which could facilitate the spread of new Mpox strains within the European region. “Considering the intensity of travel between countries, if urgent measures are not taken to prevent the spread of the virus, new strains of Mpox have the potential to spread within the European region,” the WHO cautioned, urging Azerbaijan to enhance its preparedness measures against possible health emergencies.
