Wind Turbine Components for Azerbaijan’s Khizi-Absheron Wind Farm to Arrive via Middle Corridor

BAKU - Key components for the 240-MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Farm, a major renewable energy project by ACWA Power, are set to be shipped from China to Azerbaijan along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

According to Trend News Agency, Project Director for ACWA Power Azerbaijan Renewable Energy, Ashley Rowlands, detailed the ongoing efforts and future plans in a recent interview. Construction for the wind farm began in April, spanning two zones in Absheron and Khizi. "We have made substantial progress, with over 40 percent of the project completed. In the coming months, we will focus on installing the wind turbines at the designated sites to ensure the wind farm is operational by 2025," Rowlands stated.

The ambitious project, which is scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025, will feature 37 wind turbines expected to generate up to 893 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually. This massive output is projected to reduce carbon emissions by over 400,000 tons each year. Rowlands also highlighted that the wind farm would operate under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model for the next 25 years, with ACWA Power managing its operations and maintenance.

Furthermore, Rowlands revealed ongoing discussions with SOCAR, the state oil company of Azerbaijan, about potential collaborations on green hydrogen projects. "We are exploring the feasibility of producing and exporting green hydrogen. Such projects require substantial investment and detailed planning," he noted, underscoring the strategic shifts towards sustainable energy and green policies in Azerbaijan.
