Baku: The winners of the Baku Marathon 2026, organized at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, have been announced. Ahmet Alkanoglu from Trkiye clinched the top position in the men's category, making him the first athlete to cross the finish line. He was followed by Ukrainian runner Vitaliy Shafar and Yrskeldi Akerov of Kyrgyzstan, who secured second and third places, respectively.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, in the women's competition, Elena Tolstykh from Russia claimed first place. Azerbaijan's Anna Yusupova earned a notable second-place finish, while Shirin Akimbay from Kazakhstan took third place. The 9th edition of the marathon saw participation from runners hailing from various countries such as Azerbaijan, the U.S., China, Germany, UK, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Trkiye, and Ukraine. The event drew 25,000 participants racing under the slogan 'Win the Wind.'
