Women’s Leadership Promoted at ITU Event in Baku

Baku: A special event focused on enhancing women’s leadership in the telecommunications sector was organized by the International Telecommunication Union’s Network of Women in the Telecommunication Development Sector (NoW in ITU-D) as part of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25). The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (MDDT) shared this information with APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event aimed to bolster women’s participation in decision-making processes within the information and communication technology fields. Distinguished speakers at the session included Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, and Kosmas Lakison Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau.

During the event, certificates were awarded to members who made significant contributions to the network’s activities between 2023 and 2025. Notable among them was Sahiba Hasanova, a leading advisor to the Technological Development Department of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, who serves both as a member of the Advisory Council and as a mentor within the Women’s Network for WTDC-25. Additionally, Tinatin Valiyeva, a leading advisor in the Ministry’s International Cooperation Department, shared her experiences with attendees as a mentee.

The Network of Women (NoW) program by the International Telecommunication Union is dedicated to advancing women’s participation in technology and the digital sector. It offers educational opportunities, and creates mentoring, experience exchange, and coordination platforms to develop professional skills, ultimately strengthening women’s leadership in the telecommunications sector and promoting gender equality.
