World Bank Projects Decline in Azerbaijan’s Current Account Surplus


Baku: The World Bank (WB) has announced several macroeconomic forecasts regarding Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports. The Bank anticipates that Azerbaijan’s current account surplus (CAS) of the balance of payments will decline over the next five years.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the CAS is projected to be 11.6% of GDP in 2025, 5.4% in 2026, and 3.8% in 2027. The World Bank further expects the CAS to decrease to 3.6% in 2028 and 3.4% in 2029.



The Bank’s analysts also project a 2.4% economic growth rate in Azerbaijan for 2025-2026, with a slight decrease to 2.3% in 2027, and 2.2% for the years 2028-2029. Inflation is forecasted at 2.3% for 2025-2026, slightly reducing to 2.2% in 2027, and 2% for 2028-2029.



Additionally, the World Bank predicts a decrease in net foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country over the coming years. It estimates that these investments will constitute 0.9% of GDP in 2025 and 2026, 0.8% in 2027, 0.7% in 2028, and 0.6% in 2029.
