Baku: A panel session titled "From events to impact: How Mega Events can Accelerate Sustainable Urban Development and Infrastructure Transformation" took place at the WUF13 Business and Innovation Hub, organized by the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan).
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the session featured discussions with notable attendees including Madina Jafarli, Head of Quality Management and ESG at AZCON Holding; Katerina Zuban, Managing Director of Rhenus Logistics Azerbaijan llC; Farida Gojayeva, Senior Specialist at the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency; and Shahla Abubakirova, Representative of the COP29 Organizing Committee. The speakers emphasized the role of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce in assisting companies with market access, business development, and fostering bilateral cooperation, operating as the official representative of the German economy in Azerbaijan since 2012.
The discussion underscored the impact of international events held in Azerbaijan on urban infrastructure and sustainable development. About a decade ago, during the European Games, the main focus was on building capacity for managing large-scale events. Currently, the emphasis has shifted towards energy efficiency, inclusivity, and climate resilience.
The session also addressed the importance of international partners and global organizations. It was noted that international organizations such as the UN are driving the transformation of local institutions by encouraging advancements in supply chain transparency, green procurement, and carbon emissions tracking.
