Baku: "Construction of the Zangezur corridor within Azerbaijan is expected to be completed next year," announced Fariz Aliyev, head of the Transport Policy Department of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport. Aliyev made this statement at the Absheron Logistics Terminal during an event celebrating the reception of the latest block train from China's Zhejiang province.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ministry official mentioned significant progress toward the opening of the Zangezur Corridor. This corridor is anticipated to play a crucial role in Azerbaijan's transport infrastructure, enhancing transit flows along both the East-West and North-South routes. The completion of construction within Azerbaijan is anticipated for next year.
Aliyev also noted that parallel projects are progressing in Trkiye. The foundation of the 224-km section of the Kars-Dilucu line has been laid, with full completion expected in four years. The completion and commissioning of the Zangezur corridor is projected to increase cargo capacity by an additional 15 million tons annually on the Middle Corridor.
The ministry official highlighted that last year saw the dispatch of 358 block trains from China to Europe, underscoring Azerbaijan's growing transit capabilities. These developments indicate that the infrastructure reforms undertaken in Azerbaijan are producing tangible outcomes.
