Azerbaijanis will be able to stay in the UAE without a visa for 3 months

Citizens of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates will be able to enter both countries with civil passports without a visa and stay in them for 3 months. This became possible after the approval by President Ilham Aliyev on May 19 of amendments to the Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of the two countries on the exemption from entry visas of citizens with general passports. Until now, the holders of diplomatic and service passports had such a right.

The time and place of the next face-to-face meeting of the trilateral working group of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will be determined, following consultations of the vice-premiers of the three countries, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk said, Trend reports.

“Today, during the day, intensive consultations are being held between the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on the issue of restoring transport communications in the South Caucasus region within the framework of a trilateral working group under our joint chairmanship. The final decision on the place and time of the next in-person meeting of the trilateral working group will be made following consultations,” he said.

The ambassador also met with the gymnasts of his country who are taking part in the competitions.

“I visit the Gymnastics Arena in Baku for the first time, and for me this, of course, is a discovery. Rhythmic gymnastics is a beautiful sport, it is very interesting to watch the competitions with your own eyes. The atmosphere in the hall is great. I am glad that gymnasts from Belgium are taking part in the European Championships in Baku, and that young athletes were able to visit Azerbaijan and see your country. ITU actively cooperates with Azerbaijan to assess level of digital literacy of population

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) actively cooperates with Azerbaijan, Director of the ITU Regional Office in the CIS countries Natalia Mochu told Trend on the sidelines of the GSMA M360 Eurasia 2023 conference in Baku.

Natalia Mochu noted two priority areas – digital literacy assessment and cybersecurity, speaking about the main areas of ITU cooperation.

“We are working to assess the level of digital literacy of the population together with the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, as well as with the national statistical authority. This is quite a voluminous work that we have started literally this year,” she said.

According to her, the results are positive at the moment.

Azerbaijan collects all the necessary data. The objective of the project is to create a holistic, statistical questionnaire and conduct research throughout Azerbaijan.

“This project will affect about 11,000 households, as well as ministries and universities. It is aimed at determining both the general situation with digital literacy and specific needs in industries or types of organizations,” Natalia Mochu said.

She also noted the importance of the goal that the Azerbaijani government has set, ensuring that all citizens have an equal opportunity to use public services.

“The next priority area of cooperation with Azerbaijan is cybersecurity,” she said.

“Azerbaijan already has the necessary infrastructure to ensure the proper level of cybersecurity, but nevertheless we see that the country is very interested in updating, strengthening, and improving the skills that exist. In this regard, we are working with Azerbaijan to assess and determine the directions of tasks that need to be solved in this particular area,” Natalia Mochu said.

Director of state enterprise detained for extortion from investor

Director of a state-owned enterprise was detained when taking a bribe of 1 million soms. Press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.

The official extorted 2.5 million soms from investors and demanded a 20 percent stake in the newly created company, threatening with deprivation of the license for development of some fields.

The investigators found out that the general director, who was in collusion with other persons, received a 20 percent stake in an oil company as a bribe, registering the stake for affiliated nominees, after which he continued to extort 2.5 million soms.

As a result of investigative and operational measures, the man was caught red-handed when taking 1 million soms, as well as the second person involved in the criminal case.

They were placed in the temporary detention center of the SCNS. An investigation is underway.
