Morocco: Friday saw the first matches of the second day of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025), highlighted by Egypt claiming their second consecutive win, this time defeating South Africa 2-1.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the match was intensely contested. Egypt opened the scoring with a penalty converted by star player Mohamed Salah in the 45th minute. Shortly after, Mohamed Hany was sent off in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, leaving Egypt under pressure as South Africa pushed to equalize. The Bafana Bafana came close to leveling the score but were denied by a performance from goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, whose heroics ensured Egypt's victory and secured their spot in the next round.

In the other match of Group B, Angola and Zimbabwe played out a 1-1 draw. With these results, Egypt tops the group with six points, followed by South Africa with three points, while Angola and Zimbabwe each have one point.

In Group A, Zambia and Comoros played to a 0-0 draw, while Morocco and Mali shared the points in a 1-1 stalemate.

Morocco, contrary to expectations, delivered a performance. The team had to wait until the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time to score their only goal, a penalty converted by Brahim Diaz of Real Madrid. In the second half, Mali, showing greater composure and discipline with an open, well-structured style, equalized in the 64th minute via a penalty converted by Lassine Sinayoko, keeping their hopes of advancing alive.
