Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex Inaugurated on Heydar Aliyev’s Anniversary

Baku: On May 10, the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex was inaugurated, marking the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. This significant event was attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex, part of the second phase of the Barda-Aghdam Railway Line project, spans nearly 8 hectares and includes vital amenities such as waiting halls, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment areas, a restaurant, and relaxation zones. The complex ensures passenger access to both the train platform and bus stops.

In addition, various service buildings and a passenger platform were established within the complex. The facility boasts Azerbaijan’s first covered railway platform, stretching 350 meters. It also features above-ground parking for various vehicle sizes, platforms for intercity and intraregional buses, bicycle parking, a park, and electric vehicle charging stations.

The railway station within the complex has a capacity to transport 800-1000 passengers daily, while the bus terminal can accommodate 1300-1500 passengers per day. The facility is designed to function as an integrated transportation hub. The opening ceremony included the first symbolic passenger train journey on the Barda-Aghdam railway line.

The foundation for this strategic infrastructure project was laid on October 4, 2022, with President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in attendance. The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex aims to improve public transportation access in the Karabakh economic region, contribute to the socio-economic revival of the Aghdam District, expand Azerbaijan’s transportation potential, and significantly support the ‘Great Return’ process.

The Barda-Aghdam and Horadiz-Agbend railway projects in Karabakh and East Zangazur are expected to yield positive economic impacts on Azerbaijan’s liberated territories. The new railway lines will enable faster and more cost-effective transportation of passengers and goods, enhancing the region’s logistical capabilities.

Situated at the crossroads of the East-West and North-South transportation corridors, the region is poised to become a strategic hub for freight aggregation, sorting, and distribution. Infrastructure facilities like the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex and logistics centers are anticipated to boost local production and international trade, establishing the complex as a key transport exchange center for the Karabakh region.
