Baku: The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is set to deepen its cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly in the maritime transport and aviation sectors, according to Xiaohong Yang, Director General of AIIB. In a statement to APA-Economics, Yang highlighted the existing robust partnership between AIIB and Azerbaijan, which has been primarily focused on the transport sector.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, AIIB's collaboration with Azerbaijan has included significant projects in railways, the Green Line of the Baku Metro, and ADY's circular railway projects. The bank's future plans aim to extend this cooperation into maritime transport and aviation, with active engagement already underway at the Port of Baku. Additionally, AIIB is working on initiatives in the energy sector, specifically green energy corridors across the Caspian Sea.
Yang emphasized the promising nature of AIIB's partnership with Azerbaijan, expressing optimism for its continuation. She also revealed that a $180 million project for a Baku depot was signed recently, while discussions are ongoing for a $700 million project related to the Baku Metro. Cooperation with ADY remains strong, with numerous new projects anticipated in both public and private sectors.
