Lachin:Representatives of the Albanian-Udi Christian Community in Azerbaijan visited the ancient Aghoghlan Monastery in the Lachin district, engaging in religious rites, lighting candles, and offering prayers.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Aghoghlan Monastery is a significant religious site with origins predating Christianity, having been a Christian place of worship since the 4th century. The monastery's architectural style and features are considered crucial evidence of its Albanian origin.
During the period of occupation in Lachin, the monastery's structure was altered in an attempt to present it as an Armenian church. The 5th-6th-century monastery, located on the banks of the Aghoghlan River, was rebuilt in the 9th century after sustaining damage over the centuries.
Throughout the occupation, the monastery and other Albanian heritage sites experienced modifications intended to distort their historical backgrounds. Azerbaijan upholds a tradition of respect and tolerance toward religious monuments, with mosques, churches, and synagogues forming an integral part of the nation's historical and cultural heritage.
