Azerbaijan and US Discuss Strategic Partnership and Regional Developments

Baku:Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan met with Aryeh Lightstone, Senior Adviser to the US Special Envoy for Peace Missions, to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the meeting included a discussion on the growth of Azerbaijan-US relations, which have been elevated to a strategic partnership following a historic summit in Washington on August 8, 2025. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the rapid development of these ties in various sectors, especially after the summit.

The importance of the Charter on Strategic Partnership, signed on February 10, 2026, was highlighted. This agreement is considered crucial for strengthening bilateral relations and identifying new cooperation areas. The meeting reviewed the activities of working groups set up to implement the Charter and discussed concrete projects and roadmaps for future collaboration.

Economic and energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the US was also a focal point. Agreements made during Baku Energy Week and the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum were noted as strengthening the economic foundations of the partnership, particularly in energy, investment, and high technologies.

Azerbaijan shared information on its infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the region's energy, transport, and logistics capabilities, expanding the Middle Corridor, and boosting regional connectivity. The TRIPP project was specifically mentioned for its potential to enhance transport and economic links in the region, facilitating connectivity through Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

A discussion on the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also part of the agenda. Minister Bayramov informed Lightstone about Azerbaijan's efforts to advance the peace agenda, implement agreements, open regional communications, and promote lasting peace and stability.

Both parties stressed the need to continue developing the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership across all mutual interest areas and to ensure that agreements are followed by practical outcomes.
