Beijing: Last year marked a significant milestone in the history of China-Azerbaijan relations. President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met twice and announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership, ushering in a new stage of high-quality and comprehensive development in bilateral relations, Lu Mei, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Azerbaijan, said at a briefing held on March 13.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ambassador stated that China-Azerbaijan relations have continued to develop steadily since the beginning of 2026. The diplomat added that regardless of changes in the international situation, China will continue to develop relations with Azerbaijan from a strategic perspective, while both sides plan to maintain contacts at all levels, expand cooperation, and strengthen ties between their peoples.

The Chinese side also expressed its readiness to support Azerbaijan in hosting this year's summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). The diplomat also touched upon the Azerbaijani government's efforts to facilitate the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Iran, ensuring the entry of more than 600 individuals into the country through the Astara border checkpoint. Lu Mei described it as another manifestation of the high level of political trust between the two countries.

The ambassador emphasized that upcoming exchanges between the foreign ministries, parliaments, and political parties would be accompanied by expanded interaction in trade, economic, and humanitarian sectors.
