Ambassador: Mexico and Azerbaijan to Cooperate in Defense and Security

Baku: Relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan are entering a new phase of cooperation, particularly in defense and security sectors. The two nations are actively working to strengthen ties, facilitated by both the Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico City and diplomatic efforts in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a high-level delegation from Mexico, including a minister, a deputy minister, and the governor of Mexico City, visited Azerbaijan in May to participate in WUF13. This visit underscores the importance Azerbaijan holds for Mexico. This year, two significant agreements have been signed between the countries, focusing on diaspora issues and defense and security cooperation. The appointment of Mexico's first military attach© to Azerbaijan further solidifies these relations, aiming to enhance collaboration in the defense sector.

Both countries recognize their strategic geographical positions, which serve as vital connecting points in their respective regions. This shared attribute opens up potential for future collaborative projects that capitalize on their connectivity. While discussions about a direct flight between Mexico and Azerbaijan have not yet commenced, the idea is seen as a promising opportunity to foster closer ties between the people of both nations.

Business cooperation is also on the horizon as companies from both countries recently met to explore opportunities. Though Mexican participation in the reconstruction projects in Karabakh and East Zangezur isn't currently on the agenda, the successful meeting has paved the way for future business missions.

Cultural exchange forms another pillar of the Mexico-Azerbaijan relationship. With active cultural events in Azerbaijan and similar efforts in Mexico, both countries are striving to enhance mutual understanding. Talks are also underway with universities to facilitate student mobility, which could lead to fruitful student exchange programs.
